Contraceptive Counseling

Contraceptive methods can be discussed any time during pregnancy but during your last visit at our office after delivery we will encourage you and your partner to start using any kind of your preference. We will explain the different types of contraceptives and the most commonly used in Aruba. You will be explained how and where to obtain them, most commonly at the Family Planning office in Aruba that you can visit at: Bilderdijkstraat 16, room# 4, Phone: +297 588 9591
After delivery you won’t think about intecourse for sure! But it is important to have some information about this though. Every person will have different feelings about having intercourse again after delivery. The delivery itself, the fatigue, being a new parent all this can reduce the sexdrive. The best advice is to wait until you want to. This can easily be 6 weeks or 6 months after delivery! If you have stitches it will generally heal within 10 days, but it can be a sensitive spot for a longer time as this new skin will feel stiff. This can be sensitive for a period of time even when sitting, biking, or when you are having intercourse. The use of gel will reduce the discomfort for sure. After some time the skin will feel soft and normal again. We advise you not to have intercourse as long as you are bleeding after delivery. This is still blood from the uterus and that means you still have a chance to get an infection.
