Postpartum Checkups

The postpartum period starts immediately after the baby is born until 6 weeks after. During the first couple of hours you will be monitored by the nurses of the Maternity ward. Generally you will go home the next day, where we will visit you to check up on you. Finally, there will be one last appointment after a month, at Cas di Partera.

– Involution of the uterus
– Bleeding postpartum
– Bloodpressure (if necessary)
– Inform and guide about Breastfeeding

– Check your Baby’s skin color (Jaundice)
– Check your Baby’s navel
– If you had a C-Section we will check the wound
– Answer any questions or concerns

Usually at the end of the first week the last visit will take place when the midwife knows everything is going well. We will inform you to make an appointment for the last visit at our office 4 weeks after delivery. During this visit we will answer any questions you still have and also talk about the delivery in case this is desired. This check up is for you, the mother, but we love to see the babys and have their picture taken for our social media. We will give advice about the contraceptives methods most commonly used and available here in Aruba and direct you towards where to get them.
